Education Programmes

At Elder Archaeology, CIC, we specialise in bringing archaeology and heritage to life through education and skills development. Our in-school programmes give students practical experience with real heritage projects, helping them connect classroom learning to the wider world and inspiring interest in history and archaeology. We also host school groups on community excavations, giving pupils the opportunity to participate in meaningful fieldwork, learn archaeological techniques, and understand the importance of their local heritage.

In addition to our work with schools, we deliver structured job training programmes that create real career pathways in heritage and archaeology. A flagship example is our work in Rochdale, where trainees participated in the Big Dig Rochdale 2.0 and Broadfield Park Slopes Regeneration Programme. Over the course of these projects, participants received practical, hands-on training in fieldwork, finds processing, archiving, and community engagement. Trainees went on to secure paid roles in heritage and archaeology, demonstrating the effectiveness of our programmes in turning learning into real employment opportunities.

Our educational and training initiatives are highly adaptable. We can work with schools to integrate archaeology into existing curricula, provide university students with field schools, or develop adult learning programmes that engage local communities. We also mentor volunteers and trainees throughout all stages of a project, ensuring they gain confidence, practical skills, and valuable work experience that can support future careers in heritage.

By combining expert guidance with real-world opportunities, Elder Archaeology helps students, volunteers, and trainees develop both knowledge and employable skills while making a tangible contribution to community heritage projects. Whether you are looking to inspire young learners, support university students, or create career pathways for local groups, our programmes offer impactful, hands-on experiences that connect people with the past and open doors for the future.
